Cytogenetic laboratories provide microscopic studies of human chromosomes in order to diagnose prenatal and postnatal abnormalities and cancer. We perform chromosome analysis on prenatal amniocentesis and chorionic villi sampling, and other diagnostic work associated with high risk and failed pregnancies. During our cancer diagnostic work, we look for abnormal or multiple copies of chromosomes that tell us the specific form of cancer, or whether a bone marrow transplant is successfully addressing a cancer.
