  Our Mission

To be the cytogenetic laboratory and information resource of choice for physicians who demand accurate, timely, and state-of-the-art cytogenetic diagnostic services for their patients.

  Our History

Genetics Associates, Inc. was founded in 1990, with the aim to provide local, efficient, economical, high quality, state-of-the-art cytogenetic diagnostic services to physicians and their patients. GAI is a privately owned and operated laboratory specializing in cytogenetics, including chromosome analysis and fluorescence in situ hybridization. Our goal is to complement the quality service that physicians provide to their patients. We offer fast, accurate diagnostic evaluations on prenatal/postnatal abnormalities and cancer. Our prognostic interpretations on recurrent cancer patients depend primarily on previous requested studies and the type of cancer that was evidenced at that time. In addition to our diagnostic and prognostic evaluations, GAI takes things a step further by offering genetic counseling upon request.

Our four principals (listed below) founded the company with the goal of providing superior service to local physicians. Having worked together for Vanderbilt University Medical Center, they bring years of experience to GAI and work side by side with our technologists. They make a difference by insisting on the highest standards of professionalism, timeliness and accuracy.

  Our Strengths

Genetic TestingGAI's level of experience and dedication enables us to outperform many national and local labs in regard to our turn around times. We can often provide preliminary reports on newborn blood studies within one day. For chorionic villus sampling, we can give a one-day preliminary report, with the average final result being given in 7-8 days. Our normal turn around time for amniotic fluid samples is 7-8 days as compared with 10-14 days for national labs. Leukemic bloods and bone marrow samples receive a 24-hour preliminary result whenever possible and a final result within 3 days. Fluorescence in situ hybridization is already a fast procedure, but our specialized protocols allow us to have an even faster turn around time compared to other labs, with the report often sent the same day that the sample was received. We have our own courier which ensures less handling time for a specimen, as well as less danger of physical loss or loss of viability due to temperature and time extremes.

Among our many strengths are our rapid turn around times, our reputation for quality service, our competitive pricing, our close proximity and personal relationship to our referring physicians and our experienced highly trained staff. Long distance delivery is made via FedEx, with whom we have our own billing account, to ensure that the specimen arrives by Priority Overnight mail, for immediate accessioning and set up upon arrival. Our office staff is well trained, and we accept many national networks for insurance, including Medicare and several states Medicaid plans including TennCare. Billing questions are handled courteously and quickly via telephone or mail. For convenience, we offer direct billing to your office. We accept Visa and MasterCard for payment as well.
